Brooke & Nick

Brooke & Nick
August 28th, 2010

Brooke was one of Melinda's former students- which makes this wedding super special!
I couldn't be there Saturday to shoot the wedding- so I did my own photo shoot Friday...in a tree. I thought it was fun!

The Bride's beautiful cascade bouquet
I love it when every single bloom is in perfect form! Amazing!
The ring bearer carried a mahogany box with kermit mums and long ribbons to tie the rings with. Isn't it cute?!
The flower girl basket with roses, dahlias, lisianthus, and various greens.
The bridesmaids bouquet. Isn't that big orange dahlia just fabulous?!
The whole thing:
Personal flowers: the boutonniere and wrist corsage

Jason & Doris

Hello all! Well this wedding was in Tahoe, but we made sure to snap a few photos before a friend of the bride's took them on their little roadtrip!

The brides bouquet was a mixture of Polo and Vendella Roses
The bridesmaids' bouquets were yellow roses, iris, and galax leaves. The maid of honors was the same, but with the addition of white roses.
Very bright and fun colors! I'm sure they looked great agaisnt the beautiful Tahoe backdrop!

Art After Dark

Art After Dark is an awesome event put on by the Slo Arts Council and Arts Obispo. Within it are a bunch of mini events and showcases at different locations around downtown San Luis Obispo. Festive Designs participated in the floral design competition held in the SLO Museum of Art. There were about 7 different entries from local floral shops, and each year they are judged by the previous year's winner. It's a really casual, fun way for the designers to promote their business, expose the community to some fantastic designs, and express their own personal style! Take a look at Melinda's design and wish us luck! I'll let you know how it goes.

Savor the Central Coast!

So I'm sure you've all heard of Savor the Central Coast going on at Santa Margarita Ranch. The one and only Sunset Magazine is putting the event on- and there are sure to be TONS of people in attendance. If not for the food and wine, then probably for my celeb chef crush: Tyler Florence from The Food Network!! You know...Tyler's Ultimate!  It's from September 30th-October 3rd. It will be all wine, food, and amazingness! (Yes, I realize that's not a real word.)
Melinda was lucky enough to be asked to design the floral display on behalf of Cal Poly's College of Agriculture. She and her students are creating a giant "floral wall" (if you will) to bring attention to the Cal Poly booth. They will be featuring Cal Poly products like cheese, chocolate, wine, etc. I can't wait to check the event out! I promise to post pictures!!! Will any of you be there?! It's an event you probably shouldn't miss out on....

a BIG congratulations!!!

I can't believe it took me this long to make a post about this....oops!
But better late than never right?!

Congratulations are in order to Melinda and her floral design competition team from Cal Poly!!! These three young girls placed FIRST OVERALL at their national competition. It was Melinda's 14th year bringing a team to the competition- but her first year winning the whole enchilada! And to top it off- it was the first year of competition for two out of the three girls! Impressive much?! These girls worked so hard for this achievement- fund raising, practicing after class, and studying the industry's cutting-edge trends! So please leave a comment giving them a round of applause! They SO deserve it!
The competition was held in Boston during the annual Symposium put on by AIFD- The American Institute of Floral Design. This symposium exposes the team to the best of the best when it comes to designers, publications, products, and businesses in the floral design industry! Look what showed up in the mail!!

Mother had some fun putting this beauty together! It's for the ceremony of our wedding this weekend.
Aren't chandeliers fun?!
Quite honestly I think it looks pretty good in the front yard.....thoughts?

San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden

So my mother and I just got back from a fantastic open house & tour of the San Luis Obispo Botantical Garden! It's located in San Luis Obispo, but feels miles away with its peaceful, lush garden setting. It is a great venue for a wedding, funeral, banquet, rehearsal dinner, etc. The Oak Glen Pavilion can accomodate 96 seated for a meal, and 110 for assembly seating. It can be rented for a half day (4 hours) or a full day (8am-10pm). They also have their own tables and chairs! I was too busy enjoying the complimentary appetizers and talking with Facility Manager, David Setterlund to take photos of the pavilion- but I got some of the ceremony area and garden! Take a look.....

The entrance

Plenty of room for a gift & guestbook table at the entrance!

A view of the Garden Amphitheater from the garden pathway

What could be a great ceremony area

Seating for your guests plus a shade for sun coverage!

There is a special space for life celebrations and dedications..

Each little silver disc in this sculpture is in memory of a loved one. Very neat!

The short pathway from the ceremony location to the pavilion

My little lizard friend...who must be in the process of re-growing his tail. Poor guy.

So we really enjoyed our time in the gardens! For photos of the pavilion, visit the San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden's Facebook page and check out the pictures from their Harvest Dinner...that album has some great shots of the room! Please contact us if you're interested in taking a tour of the gardens with the Festive Designs crew to discuss options for holding your special event there! We'd love to share our ideas with you!
